About The Project

MFS secured four whole tree removal contracts with JCD. These projects covered 505 acres during the logging phase, and the subsequent grind and haul operations amounted to over 55,000 cubic yards of material.

The whole tree removal jobs are completed using traditional mechanized methods.  A tracked feller buncher, wheeled skidder and tracked landing processor are all used to cut, skid and process trees at the landing.  After processed logs are merchandised and exported from the job, the remaining slash is ground into large piles on site.  The grinding process involves an excavator with a fixed rotating grapple. This machine is used to load slash into a 550HP horizontal grinder.  The material is then loaded into 100yd “walking floor” trailers with a front-end loader equipped with a “roll out” bucket.  MFS can market all the material on their jobs, including the POL.  MFS works with multiple contractors who truck material, as well as utilizing their own log trucks.

MFS is grinding and hauling roughly 55,000 yards of grindings for JCD as well.  JCD had several jobs where slash piles were left after logging operations were complete.  Due to wildfire concerns, the piles needed to be hauled off.

The goals for all these projects are fire mitigation, forest health and watershed protection.
